Plant Based Lifestyle
Why plant based?
This blog will be largely influenced by my plant based lifestyle. Notice I said lifestyle: and not diet. Living plant based means so much more than what I choose to eat, but also embodies how I approach life on Earth, how I treat the planet and living beings, and the effects that all of these things have for the future of humanity. As a nutritionist, you might guess that the reason why I went plant based is because of the health benefits of this lifestyle, but that’s actually not the original reason why! It was back in 2008 that I went to see a documentary calle Fast Food Nation with Avril Levine that pretty much changed my life forever. I learned about factory farming, what happens to the animals on farms (big or small), and eventually the inevitable and unnecessary end to their lives which I was in complete devastation over. It was along this process that I also started learning about animal farming and the environmental implications that these practices have on our only home: Earth. I quickly removed meat from my plate, then chicken, fish and eggs. The last thing to go was dairy as I not only felt better while not consuming it, but I now understood the really sad cycle in which dairy farming embodied. That was 12 years ago. Now, in 2020, my main driver for helping people transition to a plant based lifestyle is for their health and longevity. I have spent the past decade diving deep into the science of lifestyle & preventative medicine, gaining certifications and licenses, and devoting much of my time to helping others understand the full circle effect that this lifestyle has on the future of humanity on all levels.
