What You Need to Know About Macro & Micronutrients
There are macronutrients and micronutrients...⠀
Macronutrients contain calories. They are carbohydrate, protein, and fat.⠀
Micronutrients are vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. ⠀
When we eat a diet low in micronutrients, we decrease our lifespan. ⠀
Instead, you get the most caloric bang for your buck in terms of anti-inflammatory, diffusion of reactive oxidants, and fiber-containing exposure through eating plants. ⠀
Micro & Macronutrients in Your Diet
There's a lot of things that mesh together in the puzzle of ideal nutrition, but one thing is for sure: the synergistic relationship between illness and low nutrient/high calorie/animal containing foods mirror the synergistic relationship between a decrease in illness and high nutrient/low calorie/plant-based foods. ⠀
What you don't eat is just as important as what you do eat, so as I focus on abundance with eating nutrient-rich whole plant foods, I want to remind you how important it is to also moderate/halt/eliminate/quit/decrease the consumption of the - 🚫 not so high vibe 🚫 - foods that don't serve our cellular health. ⠀
I used to 'go to town' on holidays, celebrations, parties, etc just to find myself "punishing" myself or saying that I'm "going on a detox after this week" only to find myself feeling horrible because I disrupted my gut with crappy food and would mentally feel deprived days after because "I was bad." And in fact, I would always crave those same crappy foods for days and days after eating them: they are addicting quick sugar, fat, and salty foods that our body says "give me more!" to.
The good news is that the higher your whole plant intake on a daily basis is, the less your body will suffer after the occasional consumption of less than optimal foods. It's in fact proven that vegans who even eat an animal product or highly processed food maybe once a month still harness cancer and illness fighting power due to the healthy gut bacteria vs one who eats a consistent amount of animal products on a daily basis. ⠀
