4 Easy Ways to Start Living Low-Tox:
Have you ever thought about what’s going on around our bodies?
Like, what’s in the products we use in our home, car, office, or apply to our skin? Well, surprise! It might be 2021, but we’re STILL living a life filled with plastics, pesticides, and phthalates. In fact, if you haven’t yet read the book “Countdown” by Dr Shanna Swan, you really should.
I’ve been living low-tox for 10+ years - and, let me tell you, it’s been a heck of a time. I’m still surprised by some of the products that they release to the public without fully testing what it can do to our bodies… On the other hand, I’ve also figured out an easy way for you to get started living low-tox!
Don’t worry, you’re not overhauling your life - at least, not yet!
Living Low-Tox
Toxin-free or Non-toxic is nearly impossible, as disheartening as that might be. Low-tox living is trying to get as close as you possibly can by choosing what’s best for your body (and the environment).
Low-tox is a natural lifestyle where you choose to live consciously and choose what you surround yourself with carefully in an attempt to reduce toxins and chemicals in your life. Your goal should be to create a safer environment for yourself and your family!
I know I’ve mentioned this somewhere before, but living low-tox won’t happen overnight. Change takes time and consistency, and changing too many things at once can make it harder to maintain in the future which is why I created my Holistic Life Shift program to help women transition their life in terms of mindset, plant based eating, and low-tox living.
Here’s my favorite ways to introduce low-tox into your life >>
#1. Switching to Local Organic + Whole Plant Foods
Easiest switch for the kitchen? Buying local organic and whole foods! Find alternatives for products and focus on buying more produce - and while I suggest weaning meats from your diet, you can still transition to a better way of buying if you are not in the position to remove animal products from your life yet.
#2. Eliminating Fragrances + Making Vinegar-Based Cleaning Products
If you were wondering “WTF is a phthalate?” At the beginning of this post, it’s essentially a toxic chemical found in 90% of fragrance products. It’s in your cleaning products, perfumes, soaps, and more. Easy switch? Start making your own vinegar-based cleaning solutions with essential oils or snag my favorite pre-made brand: Aunt Fannies!
#3. Natural Products + Aluminum Free Deodorant
I swear by Beautycounter deodorant and frankly, every product they formulate. The chemicals included in your current personal hygiene and beauty products would give you a heart attack! Between damaging your skin and causing health issues that last your lifetime, this switch is one of the smartest (and easiest) to make.
#4. Beeswax + Candelilla wax
Okay, I understand that the obvious waterproofing materials are plastics and aerosols - aka litter and air pollutants. The better solution? Beeswax! Beeswax is a great natural waterproofing solutions that can be applied to fabric, and can be re-applied as necessary! Candelilla wax is a plant based wax and a suitable vegan alternative to beeswax if that is what you are seeking too!
What’s Next?
After you’ve switched the simple stuff, try switching bigger products by replacing things as needed - like using stainless steel cookware instead of non-stick! If you’re determined to fully switch on a timeline, try and conquer a room at a time!
